Shino
The first Shino glazes are believed to have been in Japan in
the 14th or 15 century. Originally it was called “fat
white” a soft looking thick glaze with subtle yellow/orange
tones. Today it can be white, orange, red, beige, brown, black,
shiny or matte, smooth or rough, usually having pinholes and
crazing. Shinos are one of the most unpredictable glazes a potter
can use. They are also wonderful with a quality unlike any other
glaze.
